Family Therapy Center of Northern Virginia is a clinical practice that works closely with our sister organization, Willow’s Crown Center for Creative Training, a professional training institute for therapists.
Because of this partnership, some of our therapists are residents or supervisees completing the final stage of licensure.
If you have ever had surgery, you were likely cared for by a medical resident. Therapy training works in a similar way.
Therapy residents and supervisees hold a graduate degree in counseling, social work, or a related field
☀️ Are licensed at the first professional level in Virginia
☀️ Are actively completing required clinical hours toward full licensure, a process that typically takes about two years
☀️ Are often pursuing additional post graduate credentialing to further specialize
Through our partnership with Willow’s Crown, our therapists receive ongoing training, often at no cost or reduced cost, so they are continuously learning and refining their skills.

Residents and supervisees are never working alone. They receive:
🌱 Regular supervision from more than one experienced clinical supervisor
🌱 Ongoing consultation around sessions, treatment planning, and client needs
🌱 Support that helps them stay thoughtful, grounded, and clinically attuned
This layered supervision adds an extra level of care, accountability, and reflection.
Working with a resident or supervisee means your therapist is:
☀️ Actively supported
☀️ Closely supervised
☀️ Rigorously trained
☀️ Part of a collaborative clinical team
If you have questions or would like help choosing the best fit therapist, we are always happy to talk it through with you.
